Who Are You?

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. – Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

You were created to be unique. Not to be like everyone else. You are you. Fashioned with the exact personality, the exact talents and abilities to fulfill the assignment for your life.

Jeremiah 1:5 states “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

This was Jeremiah’s assignment, but God did the same thing with you. Before forming you in the womb, He set you apart for a special assignment, appointing you to be the person He created you to be. Whether that be a teacher, a preacher, a prophet, a business owner, an artist or anything else.

Ephesians 2:10 tells us “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

There is no one else like you on this planet. There has never been a person like you. There will never be another person just like you. You are the only you this world will ever see. You are a limited edition. God’s masterpiece.

Don’t try to be anyone else or compare yourself to others. You are supposed to be your best version of you. To try to be anyone other than you would be a step out of God’s will.

You are here on assignment from God. There is something He wants you to do. Some problem He wants you to solve. Something only you can do the way He wants it done.

Maybe you have no clue as to what that assignment is. Perhaps you have an idea but don’t know how to execute it. Either way, you have an assignment to complete. You are here for a reason. The only way for you to be truly happy in life is for you to fulfill it.

Don’t lose hope though if you don’t know what it is. Why not talk to the One who does know? Why not ask God what your assignment is and to lead you in accomplishing it?

He will never give you the full picture, but He will give you the next step. Ask Him today.

What Do You Believe?

Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? – Isaiah 53:1

Some of the greatest minds of our time believe that God doesn’t exist, that the stories of the Bible are simply fairy tales.

In science, we create a hypothesis and prove or disprove that theory.

Do I believe in God on belief alone? No. Then why do I have an unshakeable knowing that God exists? Am I just comforting myself with fairy tales? No. I have my own proof.

From what I am told, my entrance into this world was a tad dramatic. My mother experienced pre-eclampsia during her pregnancy and suffered convulsions on the delivery table.

The doctor, a general practitioner not a OB/GYN, came out to the waiting room, white in the face, not sure if we would live. My father called the church and put us on the prayer chain. That’s when things turned around, and we both survived.

That could have been coincidental if I didn’t drink too much water when I was twenty-two that wiped out my electrolytes. This caused me not to be able to see or walk. My brain stopped sending signals to the rest of my body, and I went into a comatose-like state. If we hadn’t been able to get me into the hospital right away and my mother hasn’t been praying, I would have died.

Then one night my mother’s boyfriend drove her and I to dinner when I heard God in my spirit tell me to pray. I did, and. not a minute later, a car slammed into a utility pole right behind us.

I have countless stories like this. I have countless more of me applying the Word to a situation, and it miraculously changing. Specifically how many times I have been protected since I started praying the 91st Psalm every morning.

I have experienced the power of God so many times from a cyst behind my neck disappearing to panic attacks being healed. I cannot believe that God does not exist. I have too much experience that says otherwise.

I believe that those who say God does not exist haven’t experienced Him.

Have you? Whose report do you believe? The report of the world? Or God’s?

Faith On The Line?

We have all heard about gratitude, how we should be more grateful for what we have, what we have made it through. This is great and can revolutionize our lives and our relationships if we practice it consistently.

However there is another aspect of being thankful. Thanking God for the answer in advance is the highest form of praise, of trust. When we do this, we are essentially saying, “Lord, I trust You.” Probably one of the sweetest phrases to God’s ears.

Thanking God before we see anything in the natural takes confidence though. Confidence in God and His Promises.

How can we be that confident?

When Jesus died on the Cross, He cried out, “It is finished (John 19:30).” What was finished? Did He just die to keep us from hell? Did He just die for our salvation and forgiveness of sins?

God has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). Does healing belong to life and godliness? Yes. By Jesus’ stripes, we were healed (I Peter 2:24). Does financial health belong to life and godliness? Yes. II Corinthians 9:8 says God gives us abundance in every situation. What about mental health? Relationships? Covered and covered.

Jesus died to give us healing in every area of our lives–in our spirit, body, mind, finances, relationships. Jesus took it all. It already finished. Already ours. II Corinthians 1:20 tells us that the promises of God are yes and amen. If it is promised in God’s Word, it is already ours.

If they are already ours, how come we can’t see them? They are stored up in our Heavenly bank account. Just like our earthly ones, resources aren’t automatically withdrawn from our accounts without action on our part.

How do we make a withdraw? By thanking God in advance for what is already ours before we ever see it in the natural. This puts your faith on the line. It shows that we are trusting God to transfer it from the spiritual realm to the natural.

It may take awhile, but if we consistently thank God in advance for what we need, we will see it manifest. Just keep thanking God for the result no matter what you see. It will happen.  You will see it in this realm.

Are You Failing?

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. – 2 Timothy 1:7

I watch a lot of HGTV. Mostly as background noise for my writing, painting or business activities. However the commercial for Hometown Fixer-Upper caught my attention. Erin Napier, one of the people on the show, uses the catch phrase: Get up and do it.

How much time have we wasted in our lives? Distracted from all the things we have on that to-list we made at the beginning of the year? What has captured our attention instead?

Perhaps we spend our nights watching movies while eating ice cream and popcorn? Maybe we are addicted to every spy novel we can get our hands on. Perhaps we have houses to clean, jobs to go to, meals to cook and kids to feed?

What is it that is preventing us from starting that new business? Painting that masterpiece? Writing that next big novel? Trying out for that movie?

It is not because we have shiny object syndrome or are lazy that we don’t accomplish our dreams. It is because we are afraid. Afraid to commit all that time, money and effort to a project that may not work out. We are afraid to fail

Failure can be looked at two ways. As the end or the beginning. We can see failure as final, or we can see failure as a learning experience, an opportunity to figure out what we did wrong and do things differently the next time.

We are going to fail. It is an inevitable part of life. We are going to be bad the first few times we try something new.

Failure is not being bad at the activity the first time you try it. Failure is not trying things in the first place because we are afraid to fail.

World famous violinists, gymnasts, basketball players may have been born with some initial talent, but it is the practice day in and day out that caused them to succeed. The getting up and doing it everyday when they would rather be watching Game of Thrones or seeing a movie with friends.

If we want to meet our goals, we have to see failure as just an opportunity to learn how to do things better next time. We have to focus and practice until we have mastered it.

Don’t let the fear of failure stop you from trying something new.

Take out that list of goals. Pick one and focus on it. Schedule fifteen minutes every day to work on it. Say no to distractions, and get up and do it. Do this everyday and you will see yourself accomplish that goal.
