Do You Have Peace?

And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ’s] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always]. – Colossians 3:15 Amplified Bible (AMP Classical Version)

People worry. That’s what we do. We worry about our children, our spouses, our jobs, our businesses. We struggle to make decisions, even simple ones.

We pray for guidance, a sign whether we should choose this path or that one. We labor over our choices. Even after we have made them.

We ask our friends, who are as sick and broke as we are, what they would do. We research it on Google. We are afraid to make the wrong decision.

This verse tells us to let the peace of God be our umpire.

What does an umpire do? An umpire makes judgments on plays.

They make the final decision.

That’s what peace does in our lives.

When we are faced with two courses of action, we need to quiet ourselves for a moment.

Which choice do we feel peace about? Which one makes us anxious? Full of dread and worry?

Peace, or absence of peace, is God’s internal guidance system. It is His way of guiding us to the right choice.

If we don’t have that peace, God is directing us away from that action. If we feel peace, it is the way to go.

Being able to gauge our guts to see if we have peace, takes practice.

If we practice it enough, it will become a valuable resource and will never steer us wrong.
