Is The Pain Real?

“By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.” – Hebrews 13:15 (KJV).

The night before my scheduled flight home to Phoenix, I ended up in the emergency room.

For months, I battled this pain that radiated down my right leg.  The pain so bad by this point that I could barely get out of bed that day.

I couldn’t do simple things like putting on my socks or take a shower without pain.

The Emergency Room doctor told me what I already figured out through studying my symptoms online…that I suffered from Sciatica.

I got on the plane. I traveled home.  I started my new job and moved into my new apartment before I finally found a chiropractor to help me.

What I learned through this is that even in the midst of the pain, we still need to choose to praise God, to be grateful, to find the good in the middle of the bad.

I walk half of a mile every morning to catch a bus to work.  That half of a mile can be extremely difficult when the Sciatica is acting up.

I learned to play praise music on my phone and sing to the Lord during that walk.  There have been mornings when I grit my teeth while singing because the pain is so bad.

The point is to choose to praise God even when you are in pain.

Even when, like Paul and Silas, you are in prison (Acts 16:16-40).  Whether it be a physical prison or a prison of pain, anxiety or grief.

No matter what the circumstances are that you are facing, decide to praise the Lord, decide to focus on Jesus and what He has done for you.

Too often we spend all of our time looking at ourselves when we should be focusing on the One who saved us, delivered us, justified us when He hung on the Cross for our sins, our sicknesses, our diseases and every part of the curse (Galatians 3:13)..

Choose to focus on Jesus, choose to praise Him when you don’t feel like it.

When you do, your perspective will change.  You will see answers where you only saw problems.

Things will change when you decide to focus on the Answer, Jesus Christ, instead of your circumstances.
