For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. – Hebrews 4:12 (NIV).
We read the Word. We see the words on the page, but they aren’t always real to us. We don’t put them to work for us.
Hebrews 4:12 makes it clear that the Word of God is alive, that it is active.
John 1:14 (NIV) tells us “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”
That Word became flesh was Jesus.
When we activate the Word in our lives, we are activating the Power of Jesus in our lives.
What did Jesus do for us?
He took our punishment at the Cross (Romans 6:23). Jesus exchanged His righteousness for our sins (II Corinthians 5:21). God took out His full wrath and punishment on Jesus at the Cross for all our sins–past, present and future (Hebrews 10:10).
Jesus made us righteous, right in the eyes of God, when He shed His blood at the Cross.
He took stripes on His back for our healing (I Peter 2:24). Healing in our mortal bodies, according to Romans 8:11.
He also took the curse and all its effects (Galatians 3:13).
We need to believe in what Jesus did at the Cross. We must meditate on it (roll it around in our minds, speak it over and over under our breath). We have to do this until what He did becomes real to us.
When we do, we activate Jesus’ Power in our lives. We activate that living, breathing Power into every area of our lives.
