Running Away?

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. – Psalm 37:23 (NKJV).

“What are you running from?”

That one question has plagued me for the last year.

Sitting in a restaurant in a college town in Utah, I asked my companion, “Have you ever thought about starting over in another state?”

I had a burning question on my mind the entire trip.  A decision I had to make stemming from a bad choice I’d made earlier in the month.

When I decided to move to another state, to start over somewhere else, I convinced myself that I needed to do it to heal from all I had been through with my mother.

That was true to some extent, but I wanted to leave the predicament I found myself in.   I didn’t want to choose between my two choices.  I wanted to escape the battle between my heart and my mind.

Only an interesting thing happened when I moved away.  I learned which choice I wanted to make.  I began to heal from my past.  And I realized that I ran away from making a choice.

I ran away like I always do.  Only to discover that the only place that has my heart is home.

Some times we have to move away to see how much things mean to us.

I’ve been gone for over a year.  I have been spending the last couple of months trying to get back home…this time to stay.

i don’t expect to pick up where I left off.  I wouldn’t expect to because I am not the same person I was when I left.  I know who I am.  I know what I want.   I gained needed clarity.

Though I don’t recommend running away, it is exactly what I needed to help and take the next step of my God-given journey.

Are You Standing?

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. – Ephesians 6:13 (NIV).

Some times when you are doing your best to rest, to recharge, after a long week at work, that is when everything goes wrong.

Some times when you are really trying to hit a goal, obstacles block your way.

It is in these moments that we have to let go.  We have to surrender the outcome we want to God.  We have allow Him to create the best outcome rather than one that comes from our infinite mind.

This is where this Scripture comes in.  We have to do all we can toward our goal, then surrender it to God.

For instance, let’s say, you want to move to another state.  You put out applications in that state online.  You look at housing.  You do everything you can do.

Then you surrender because you can’t make anyone hire you, offer you housing or put the whole thing together.  Only God can do that.

It is when we surrender, when we say, “Lord, I don’t know what You are doing, but I trust You,” that we start to see God’s handiwork in our situation start to unfold.

When you have done all you know to do, stand and see God fight on your behalf (Exodus 14:14).

Who Are You?

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. – Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV).

I am who I am.  I am not the most brilliant.  I am not the most creative.  I am not the prettiest.  I am not the most personable one-hundred percent of the time, but I am me.

What is right for you might not be right for me.  What might be right for everyone else still might not be the right choice for me.

I wasn’t called to be you.  I wasn’t called to be Billy Graham, Steve Jobs, Donald Trump or even Mother Theresa.  I was called to be me.  With all my flaws, with all my talent, my gifts and personality.

Too many times I have let people dictate what I should do, the decision I should make, the way I should live my life.  Only those choices weren’t right for me.  They didn’t reflect who I am.

People, specifically members of my family, have tried to change me into who they think that I should be.  They compared me to their children, their grandchildren, their nieces and nephews.   I am not those people.

Who I am, what I do and who I hang around, with is up to me.  My mistakes, my successes, my failures, are mine, and mine alone, to make.

God called me to a specific purpose.  God has called you to a specific purpose as well.

He gave us each a specific assignment that only we can fulfill.  He did this because He believes in us.

Do you believe in yourself, in God, enough to pursue what you were put on this Earth to do?  Or are you content to continue living the way you have been living?

Do you want the mark you leave behind to be ordinary or extraordinary?

You will only be truly happy when you fulfill God’s plan for your life.  When you do, know that He will always do exceedingly above and beyond anything you can hope for, dream or desire (Ephesians 3:20).

You can’t even begin to imagine the great things God has planned for yu when you follow His plan instead of yours (I Corinthians 2:9).
