How Is Your Heart?

A merry heart doeth good [like] a medicine: but a broken spirit
drieth the bones. – Proverbs 17:22

Are you merry?  Are you cheerful to others?  Do you look at the
bright side of every situation?  Or do you let life get you
down more often than not?  A merry heart, a happy heart,
one that laughs, does our body, minds and spirits good.
It keeps us strong, but a broken spirit, one that is
burned-out, jaded and miserable, dries the bones.  Wouldn’t
it be better to choose to be cheerful?  Choose to be
an optimist in every situation?  To find the silver
lining in everything?  If we practice this on a regular basis,
we will find our attitude changing toward our lives.  Our
circumstances may be the same, but how we view them will be
different.  We will be happier.

Is It Taking Space?

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things
[are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things
[are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things
[are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if
[there be] any praise, think on these things. – Philippians 4:8

What are you thinking about?  What is it that has captured your
attention? The Bible tells us what to think on.  It tells us to
think on things that are just, pure, lovely and of good report.
Things that are virtuous and praiseworthy.  To do this, we have
to choose to what we are going to listen to on the television,
on the radio, what we are going to read. Think about it.  What
are you listening to?  What are you reading? Do they fall into
the categories above?  If they don’t, why are we allowing them
to take space in our minds?  In our hearts?

What’s In Your Heart?

“The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings
forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure
brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that
which fills his heart. – Luke 6:45

We speak what we fill our hearts with.  What are you allowing
to enter your heart?  Is it the Word of God?  Is it positive
teaching?  Positive programming?  Positive conversations? Or
are you listening to constant negativity from those you work
with?  The programs you watch and listen to?  The books you
read?  You must choose what influences you are going to ‘
allow to enter into your heart.  Whatever we fill our hearts
with will come out our mouths.  Change your speech by
changing what you allow to enter your heart.

What Do You Think?

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. – Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV).

What do you think in your heart?  You are whatever you think.

What does that make you?  Is that something you want to be?

If you not, it’s time to replace those thoughts with new ones.

Thoughts about what the Word says you are.

In my distress I prayed to the Lord, and the Lord answered me and set
me free. – Psalm 118:5 (NLT)

Ever been there?  Ever been in distress?  Your child is sick?  Your
car broke down?  You discovered your spouse cheated on you?  You
have been diagnosed with a disease?

We have all been in our own world of distress.

When we are in this place, it is time not just to pray but to cry out
to God our Father.

He is listening for our cry, our heartfelt prayer of help.

Then He will answer us.

It is time to stop praying weak prayers.  It is time to stop making
prayer the last resort.

We need to pray bold, pray big and expect God to come through for
us.  We need to choose to believe God and trust Him no matter
what comes our way.

Have Confidence?

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do
not see. – Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)

Faith is not a wishy-washy thing.  It is not something magic.

Faith is confidence–trust, belief–that what we are praying for, believing  for, is
going to come to pass.

If you are believing for something, and you have Scripture to stand on, you can
have confidence that what God says will come to pass.

Unfortunately, people don’t believe the Word.  They don’t believe what God says.
They only believe what they see.

Faith is not what you see in the natural.  It is about what you see in your
spiritual eye.

When we can see ourselves as the Word says we are–healed, abundant,
blessed–then we can see those promises come to pass.

We have to make a decision to believe God and His Word no matter what.  This
world will steer us wrong, but our God never will.

Model Of Change?

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an
example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and
in purity. – 1 Timothy 4:12

We have to set an example of what a Believer looks like, how one talks,
how one acts.

We have to change our thoughts, thus changing our behavior.

If we want to see change in others, we have to first change ourselves.
Then we can model that change for others.

Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that
Jesus is the Son of God. – 1 John 5:5

Have you overcome the world?  Those who believe that Jesus is the
Son of God have.

Not because in and of ourselves, we have overcome the world.

It is because when Jesus died on the Cross, when He cried, “It is
finished,” He had overcome the one thing that separated us from
God–our sin.

On that Cross, God punished Jesus.  God took out His wrath and
punishment for every sin that had been committed and ever would be
committed onto Jesus.

Jesus, who knew no sin, became sin for us.  That day the wall that
separated us from God came down, reconciling us to God, our Creator.
