What Do You Fear?

“I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” – Psalm 34:4

A few years ago, fear terrorized my life.

I wouldn’t travel on escalators because I have this memory of being thrown down an escalator when I was little.  I’ve never been able to verify the reality of the incident, but  I would have a panic attack if I had to ride on one.

Over the summer, I went to Vegas, where I traveled on many steep escalators.  Still a little afraid but I did it anyway.

I was afraid of talking to people on the phone and in person several years ago too.  I would have panic attacks if I had to speak…not just in public…at all.

Now I speak to lots of people who come to drop-off and pick-up their prescriptions or who call on the phone.  I am friendly and can have a conversation with anyone.

So many times I sought the Lord during those dark times, asking Him to deliver me of my fears, asking Him to deliver me from the panic attacks…and He did.

Four years ago, the journey I am on now of relocating to another state, of having to trust Him every step of the way, would have been impossible, but here I am.

This experience has taught me how far God has brought me.

Look back at how you were five years ago and how you are now.  Is there a difference?  What has God brought you out of?  What has He delivered your from?

These are indeed things to be thankful to God for today.

Who Is Helping You?

My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. – Psalm 121:2

The next few days are going to be hectic for me.  I am relocating to another state.

I have my plane ticket, but I have a whole lifetime of possessions to downsize.

I am doing it all on my own because I know that if I ask for help with my family and friends, they either can’t help because of their own commitments or they make me feel guilty for asking.

Thank God, my help doesn’t come from them.  My  help comes from the Lord.

He is my Strength, my Wisdom, my Portion, my Protection, my Patience, Everything I Need.

I’ve heard it say that God uses people.  He does use people, but His people and in His timing.

Sometimes God will use strangers to help us before He does our family and friends.

He is our help.  When He helps, He promises to do exceedingly above and beyond anything we can hope, ask or desire (Ephesians 3:20).

When He helps, though, it might seem like He is taking forever.  Almost as if He isn’t working on our behalf at all, but that is when our God is working the most.

God puts things together with exact timing, with the right people.  His plan is always perfect and always what is best for us.

When it seems like His plan  is taking forever, we have two choices: to panic and act like the sky is falling, scrambling to come up with a Plan B, C and D, or we can choose to surrender the situation to Him and trust Him.

That is what I am choosing to do today: to surrender and trust.

Which one will you choose?

What’s Your Story?

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. – Matthew 5:14 (NIV)

You are the light of the world.

Are you spreading your light to the world?  Are you sharing your gifts and talents with this dark place?  Are you speaking your unique message, telling your testimony of what God has done in your life?

Most of us aren’t.  Most of us are too caught-up in our own lives, our own drama, to realize that people are not saved and are not going to Heaven.

We need to be able our Father’s business, doing what God put us on this Earth to do.

We are to share our gifts, our talents, our message of what God has done in our lives.

This how we share the light of who God is and what He has done for us.

It is not about beating people over the head with the Gospel, but it is about presenting our story, what God has done in our lives.

Then others will see the light that God has brought to our lives…and that He can bring to theirs as well.
