Do You Take God At His Word?

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33
When people hear of the troubles others are going through in life, they say, “In this world you will have trouble.”

Okay, just look around you. Beheadings. Rape. Hate crimes. School shootings.

This world has a lot of trouble.

It is pretty evident, so why would Jesus actually voice that?

The trouble part is not what He was emphasizing. He was stressing the “I have overcome the world” portion.

Again, you look around you and wonder, “How can He say He overcame the world? It is worse than ever.”

Go back all the way to the cross.

What happened after Jesus was beaten and nailed to the cross to die?

II Corinthians 5:21 says He who knew no sin became sin for us.

That means God poured out all the wrath and punishment of our sins on Jesus.

We know this, but what you may not know is that He became the curse for us (Galatians 3:13). Every punishment that comes from the curse of Adam and Eve’s disobedience in the Garden.

That includes lack (III John 2), sickness (I Peter 2:24) and mental issues (John 14:27)…and so much more (Deuteronomy 28).

He also provided us with protection (Psalm 91).

The issue is that people do not believe what the Word says. They read more into it than is actually says onto the page.

People don’t believe that God can heal, provide and protect.

They don’t believe the promises are for them. They disqualify themselves from the promises based on their behavior and past.

You qualify for healing, provision and protection the same way you qualified for salvation by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ.

We may be living in this troubled world, but God never intended for us to live without all that He provided for us at the cross.

He expected us to take Him at His Word that He wishes above all things that we prosper and be in health even as our souls prosper (III John 2).

Whatever you are going through in your life, find a Scripture to stand on and simply believe that God will do what He promised.

It may take a while, but it will be for you as you believe.
