“The One who calls you is faithful and He will also accomplish it.” 1 Thessalonians 5:24
The One who calls you is faithful.
God is faithful even when we are unfaithful, which, let’s admit it, is most of the time.
Too many people are disqualifying themselves from the blessings of God because they are looking to their own efforts to qualify them. “Oh, I lied over here. I swore over there. I can’t qualify to be blessed by God.,” they say.
Only we no longer earn the blessings of God based on our performance, based on our effort, our merit. Let’s face it. Our efforts are not good enough, by any stretch of the imagination, to earn anything from the Most Holy God. Our righteousness, as Isaiah 64:6, is like filthy rags.
Then how do we receive blessings from God? Easy. By looking to the cross and what Jesus did for us. By keeping our eyes on our Savior’s death and resurrection.
When we keep our eyes on Jesus, just as when the Israelites kept their eyes on the brazen serpent on the pole to keep from dying, blessings flow to us.
Our walk with Christ is never about us. It is always about Him. When we understand how much He loves us, our love for Him grows. When we grow in our love for Him, we automatically want to obey and to do what it is right.
We need to remember that grace is God giving us the good that we don’t deserve, and mercy is God not giving us what we do deserve.
When we keep our eyes on Christ and His finished work at the cross, our lives and perspective change.
